Our history

Lawn Tennis Club Strandvliet was founded on March 8, 1977 and is celebrating its 41st anniversary this season. The name Strandvliet comes from a historic farm from 1750, located at the former Rijksstraatweg 110 in Duivendrecht, which was demolished in 1972 to make way for the elevated metro track. This metro track was desperately needed to connect the new Bijlmermeer district with the rest of the city.

In its early years, Strandvliet had no neighbors. Meadows and fields were the only thing that separated the association from the Bijlmer flats. The arrival of Ajax and the Amsterdam Arena in 1996 also brought activity. Buildings sprang up from the ground and a farmers' club soon ceased to exist. Now, almost 20 years later, Strandvliet is a place of tranquility in a rapidly changing and vibrant area. Whether it is the deafening cheering from the Arena after an Ajax goal or the ever-present LED light of the Ziggo Dome in the background: playing tennis at Strandvliet is a unique experience.
